Indian Pickles


Indian Pickles are unavoidable dishes in any Indian home. This is fundamental as a dish that awakens the appetite and usually has a wide range of flavor and textures. The ingredients in Indian pickles make them have exotic taste.

Indians consider their meals incomplete without Indian pickles. Most of the Indian pickles are fresh salted relish. This is eaten in smaller amounts. This is added to the meal to add flavor. Indian pickles and recipes have a history which is as old as Indian history. Mangoes, lemon, gooseberry etc are some of the most commonly seen ingredients in pickles. However, Indians have a special talent to make pickles out of anything and everything.

Fish pickles are used in some parts of the country where as pickles made of vegetables are popular in some other parts. Oil, salt, mustard powder, chili powder etc are the most important ingredients of any category of pickle made in India. Turmeric powder, mace, jiggery are used occasionally in specific pickle dishes. As the ingredients differ slightly the taste of the pickles vary. This is the reason why each pickle has a special aroma and taste which makes it important for Indian meals. Pickles last for several days, fresh and delicious so that they could be used for months.
