Karwa chauth is one of the most important celebrations and one of the most important prayers for any married woman in North India. The karwa chauth celebrations are conducted about 9 day’s prior diwali celebrations and this celebration with prayers has got immaculate importance in the historical pages of Indian culture. Karwa chauth is observed by married woman for the prosperity and longevity of their husbands.
The important aspect of Karwa chauth observation is the period of fasting, when married Indian women would fast from the moment of sunrise to sunset, without having any food or water. All the preparations for the all important “puja” associated with karwa chauth usually begins around 5 o clock in the evening. The ‘sari’, which is the traditional wear of Indian women, will be presented to the fasting women by the eldest lady in the home. An ideal place for the ‘puja’ will be selected, may be the terrace or any other rooms for conducting the all important prayers.
The postures of Lord “Shiva” and goddess “parvathy” will be placed there at the decorated place and they are the Gods who will bless the ladies to live happily after giving prosperity and longevity to their husbands. All prayers and observations will be over by the time moon appears in the sky.
