One of the most favorite among Makar Sankranti sweets is the 'Gokul Pithe'. It refers to a delicacy prepared with coconut and flour. Let's see how to make a Gokul Pithe because it’s easy to learn and you too can prepare it.
Things required for Gokul Pithe include coconut(200 gms), khoya(450gms), flour(150 gms), 5 to 6 cups of water, two and a half cup of sugar or date palm jaggery, ghee(40 gms), and sodium bicarbonate(1/8 tsp).
Prepare a syrup by boiling water and mixing sugar in it. Let it cool down once it has become medium thick. Put khoya, coconut, and two tablespoons of sugar and fry them in a pan. Keep stirring so that the mixture does not stick to the pan. Once ready, make cakes by dividing the mixture in equal quantity and rolling them into balls. Then, flatten the balls using the palm of your hands. Next, prepare a batter with flour, water ghee and sodium bicarbonate. Use the batter as a coating of the coconut cakes. Put ghee in a heated pan, and deep fry the coconut cakes until they are golden brown. Once fried use papers to absorb the excess oil from the cakes and drown them in the sugar syrup.
