Tasty Maharashtrian Food


Maharashtrian food is considered by Maharashtra people as "Anna-he-parabrahma. This means that the people of Maharashtra consider "Anna (food)" as god. In Indian tradition Brahma is considered as the god, who created life on earth. People believe that it was he who created food for human survival. That is why Maharashtran people believe that food consists of life.

Maharashtrian food and festivals are related to each other. Special Maharashtrian food is prepared at the time of festivals. Ganesh Chaturthi is most popular festival of Maharashtra; people celebrate this festival by preparing special Maharashtrian food called Modaka for Lord Ganesh. Maharashtrian food cuisine is divided into two parts: Varadi and Konkani. These food items consist of Grated coconut and few spices. Maharashtrian food items are prepared using peanut oil. Kokum is a special flavor used in Maharashtrian food. It is a purple berry which gives sour and sweet taste.

Seafood is also popular in Maharashtra. Most of the tourists who visit this place prefer eating Bombay duck or bombil. This fish is fried and is served to tourists. Most of the vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items are served along with rotis, papads, bhakris and rice. Bharilivangi is a special curry made from brinjals; this curry is used in food items for adding taste.
